Honda Motor Co. is launching a recall in India to replace potentially fatal Takata Corp. airbag inflators in 223,600 vehicles made between 2003 and 2012. The campaign is believed to be the largest single vehicle recall in India's history.
Takata inflators, which can deteriorate in high temperature/high humidity climates and explode when triggered in a crash, have prompted recalls totaling some 40 million cars and trucks by 11 vehicle manufacturers since 2008.
Most of the cars in the new Honda recalls are 2007-2012 model City (143,200 units) and 2003-2012 model Civic (54,000) sedans. The campaign also includes CR-V crossovers and Jazz five-door hatch.
