Honda Set Production Record in 2016

Honda Motor Co. reports its global output of passenger vehicles climbed 10% to a record 5.0 million units last year.

Production in North America rose 5% to 1.96 million units, in spite of a 4% drop in December. Output climbed 17% to 1.94 million in Asia, led by a 26% jump to 1.21 million in China. Domestic production in Japan gained 12% to 820,200 vehicles in 2016, marking the first year-on-year improvement in two years.

Honda says its exports from Japan last year more than doubled to 147,200 vehicles. Shipments to the U.S. tripled to 82,100 units and rose 77% to 40,600 units to Europe.
