Honda Motor Co. says the small "urban SUV" concept it unveiled on Monday at the Detroit auto show will go on sale in Japan by the end of the year and in the U.S. in late 2014.
The little crossover is expected to be supplied to the Japanese market from Honda's factory in Suzuka. Models for North America will be produced in the new $800 million factory Honda is erecting in Celaya, Mexico. The facility, which will have annual capacity to make 200,000 vehicles, also will assemble Fit subcompact sedans.
Both vehicles will share a platform with Honda's City subcompact sedan. Honda aims to achieve combined annual sales of more than 1.5 million of the three models, which it calls its "global compact series," by 2016.
