Honda Motor Co. says it has developed an all-new family of turbocharged engines for use in everything from the company's Fit subcompact to the Accord midsize sedan.

The direct-injection gasoline engines incorporate Honda's well-known VTEC variable valve operation with turbocharging to produce a high level of responsiveness and good fuel economy.

The VTEC turbo engines come in displacements of 2.0- 1.5-liter 4-cylinders and a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder. The largest engine produces 280 hp, Honda says.
