Honda Motor Co. has released the first official photos of the wagon version of its Civic small car. The car will publicly debut at the Frankfurt auto show next month and go on sale in Europe early next year.

Honda has not indicated if the Civic Tourer, which is based on the Civic 5-door hatch, will eventually reach North America.

The car features a steeply raked windshield, prominent wheel well accents and sporty profile. Inside, the wagon can tote 22 cu. ft. of cargo behind the second row and beneath a window-level tonneau cover or 59 cu. ft. when the second row seats are folded flat and items are stacked to the roof.

Honda will offer the Tourer with a choice of the same two 4-cylinder engines available in European versions of the Civic 5-door: a 1.8-liter i-VTEC gasoline powerplant or 1.6-liter i-DTEC diesel. The latter is the first of Honda's "Earth Dreams Technology" engines to be sold in Europe.

Honda will produce the Civic Tourer at its factory in Swindon, England. The facility currently produces the Civic and Jazz small cars and CR-V small crossover.
