Honda Motor Co. is increasing domestic output of its redesigned Fit subcompact sedan by about 20% to meet strong domestic demand, The Nikkei reports.

The newspaper says Honda will make the car at all three of its Japanese factories. The elevated output is expected to account for about 30% of the company's domestic production.

The increase will help Honda reach its goal of selling 1 million vehicles in Japan during the fiscal year that began April 1 compared with 848,400 in the previous 12-month period.

The Nikkei says Honda will produce the Fit Hybrid at its Sayama plant at a rate of about 200 units per day.
