Ford Motor Co. is developing a high-output fastback sedan variant of its Mustang pony car, reports Mustang6G.

Sources tell the website that Ford announced plans for the vehicle at a dealer meeting earlier this month. The vehicle will be powered by a turbocharged V-8 engine and will compete against luxury performance models such as the Audi A7 and Porsche Panamera, according to the report.

Earlier this year, Ford announced plans to discontinue virtually all conventional cars in North America—except for the Mustang sport coupe—to focus on SUV/crossovers, pickup trucks and vans.

The next-generation Mustang, which will share a platform with the all-new Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs, is due in 2021. That’s the same timeframe for the Mustang-inspired electric crossover that Ford announced earlier this year.
