Harman International Industries Inc. is launching version 11 of its Remote Vehicle Updating over-the-air (OTA) software technology.
The company, which was acquired late last year by Samsung Electronics Co., says its OTA system is installed in 25 million vehicles across 17 brands worldwide. Harman obtained the technology through its 2015 acquisition of Red Bend Software.
The version 11 system can be used to update any type of software and ECUs of any size across all platform (Linux, RTOS, AUTOSAR) and vehicle communication system (CAN Bus, Ethernet, MOST, LIN). Harman says the enhancements also have been made to better protect the update process and mitigate risks during an update, network failure or power failure.
Version 11 includes updates from earlier versions and features a new user interface for engineers. The Smart Delta technology reduces the file update package by as much as 99% by generating a small update file containing only the changes from previous updates, according to the company.
Harman says it has contracts to equip more than 100 million future connected cars with its OTA technology.
