Innoviz Technologies Inc. has formed a partnership with Stamford, Conn.-based Harman International Industries Inc. to produce the Israeli startup company’s InnovizOne solid-state lidar system for carmakers.

Founded in 2016, Innoviz specializes in MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical system) solid-state lidar. The company, which is part owned by Magna and Aptiv, announced a deal last April with Magna to supply lidar sensors for BMW vehicles, starting in 2021.

Harman was acquired by Samsung Electronics Co. in 2016. Innoviz’s lidar will complement Harman’s existing ADAS and automated driving technologies, including digital mapping, cybersecurity and over-the-air software updates.
