The Jeep brand's Twitter account was hijacked for several hours on Monday afternoon by hackers who replaced the make's logo with the Cadillac emblem.
The intruders tweeted a series of obscene and bizarre messages to Jeep's nearly 106,800 followers, including one that said the SUV maker had been sold to Cadillac.
Jeep parent Chrysler Group says it regained control of the account by midafternoon. The company deleted the offending posts, restored the site's appearance and tweeted, "We're back in the driver's seat!"
Cadillac has denied any involvement. Experts say the culprits were probably the same hackers who took over Burger King's Twitter account on Monday and renamed it McDonalds. Cable networks BET and MTV also were hacked on Tuesday.
Twitter says it is working on tightening security.
