China’s Guangzhou Automotive Group Co. confirms it will begin selling its GS8 midsize SUV/crossover in the U.S. by the end of next year.

President Yu Jun tells reporters at the Detroit auto show that GAC plans to begin recruiting dealers during the National Automobile Dealers Assn.’s annual convention in March.

GAC is displaying several models at the Detroit show. The carmaker, which markets its vehicles in China under the Trumpchi brand said last week it would introduce the GS8 in the U.S. by the end of the decade.

GAC has been declaring its interest in entering the U.S. market for several years. The company also has opened a technical center in California, begun conducting consumer research and hired a consultant to come up with a new brand name for the U.S. market.
