Workers protesting Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s plans to close a factory in Amiens, France, clashed with police on Thursday outside the U.S. company's local offices in a Paris suburb.

Six officers required medical treatment after protesters pelted them with stones, according to the police. One protester was arrested. The CGT union blames police violence for injuries to six employees.

Goodyear said it January it would shutter the tire facility, which is losing about €61 million per year. The factory employs 1,170 people, about 39% of the company's workforce in France.

The Goodyear incident is the latest sign of labor unrest across France that has disrupted the operations of automakers and suppliers. Strikers have blocked PSA Peugeot Citroen from building all but a few cars since mid-January at a plant in Aulnay that is scheduled to close next year.
