Goodyear Tire & Rubber has informed workers at its factory in Amiens, France, that it has received no viable offers for the facility.

Goodyear said in January it would close the plant, which is losing about €61 million ($79 million) per year. The company agreed to try to find a buyer for the factory who would retain its current 1,170 employees.

The French government says 57 companies were contacted about the facility. Three tiremakers requested information about the Amiens plant but did not make bids, according to Goodyear. It says that two investment funds made nonbinding offers with no assurances that jobs would be preserved.

A French court is scheduled to rule on the legality of the company's factory-closing plan on June 3.
