General Motors Co. has moved corporate oversight of its Russian business from its Shanghai-based International Operations group to GM Europe in Germany.

GM notes that Russia is a significant part of the European market and is likely to replace Germany as the region's largest national car market in a few years.

Russia is the third-largest market for GM's Opel brand. The company also sells Chevrolet and Cadillac brand there.

Separately, GM says Andy Dunstan, previously the company's executive director of sales in central and eastern Europe and International Operations, will take over as head of Russian operations, effective Nov. 1. Dunstan will report to GM Europe President Karl-Thomas Neumann.
