GM’s Barra Takes a Pay Cut But Out-Earns Rivals

General Motors Co. Chairman and CEO Mary Barra earned $21.9 million in compensation last year, down from $22 million in 2017.

General Motors Co. Chairman and CEO Mary Barra earned $21.9 million in compensation last year, down from $22 million in 2017.

But Barra still out-earned the CEOs of rivals Ford and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

Ford’s Jim Hackett collected $17.8 million in compensation in 2018. FCA’s Mike Manley, who succeeded the late Sergio Marchionne in July, earned $708,500 (Marchionne’s estate was paid $6.6 million).

GM also reported total compensation paid for work in 2018 to five other top executives:

  • Dan Ammann, president: $9 million
  • Mark Reuss, head of global product, $7.4 million
  • Chuck Stevens, former chief financial officer: $6.9 million
  • Dhivya Suryadevara, chief financial officer: $5.5 million
  • Alan Batey, president of North American operations: $5.3 million
