GMC Yukon Denali Gets New Face, 10-Speed Transmission

General Motors Co. is updating its GMC Yukon Denali fullsize SUV with a new grille and 10-speed automatic transmission for the 2018 model year.
Described as a “multidimensional” design, the new grille has a more sculpted look and provides more airflow to the radiator than its predecessor. Active shutters behind the grille close to reduce drag under certain highway-driving conditions.
The 10-speed gearbox, which was co-developed with Ford Motor Co., debuted last year in the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 sports coupe and Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Featuring a wide 7.39 overall gear ratio spread, the new transmission allows for smaller steps between gears that GM says provides improved fuel efficiency, responsiveness, and NVH characteristics over the 8-speed transmission in the current Yukon Denali. The transmission, which is mated with the Denali’s carryover 6.2-liter direct-injection V-8 engine with cylinder deactivation, also allows for smoother shifting.
The Denali trim, available on both the regular and extended wheelbase variants, accounts for more than half of all Yukon sales. The 2018 model is scheduled to go on sale this autumn. Pricing hasn’t been announced.
