General Moors Co. is adding capacity to build an additional 360,000 SUVs per year at the year-old factory it operates in Wuhan, China, with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp., company sources tell Xinhua News Agency.

The new line will begin making next-generation Chevrolet Equinox SUVs in the first half of 2017, according to Xinhua. Construction of the 7.5 billion-yuan ($1.1 billion) addition has been underway since the beginning of last year.

GM told reporters in March that the Wuhan factory was running at full capacity and would be expanded. The carmaker has predicted that SUV/crossovers and multi-purpose vehicles will generate 40% of its sales growth in China between now and 2020.
