General Motors Co. has partnered with Cambridge, Mass.-based Zagster Inc. to deploy a bicycle-sharing service at the carmaker's technical center in Warren, Mich.
The 19,000 employees at the complex can use the bikes to get around the 330-acre campus and commute to and from home. Employees register online and reserve a bike with a smartphone app or text message. The system provides a code used to unlock the bike.
Zagster equips the bikes with a basket to carry folders or a laptop computer. Riders must wear their own helmets and are expected to use the bike's bell to alert pedestrians. The service uses a solar-powered "geofencing" system to monitor the tech center's bike fleet.
