GM Sets CEO Barra’s Compensation at $14.4 Million
General Motors Co. says new CEO Mary Barra will receive a total of $14.4 million in compensation, including $10 million in deferred stock, this year.
General Motors Co. says new CEO Mary Barra will receive a total of $14.4 million in compensation, including $10 million in deferred stock, this year.
GM released details about Barra's long-term pay after initially describing only her salary and short-term incentives. That portion was less than half the total compensation given to her predecessor Dan Akerson in 2014, prompting critics to chide GM for fumbling the goodwill it generated by naming Barra as the company's first female CEO.
The company says it decided to release a description of Barra's full payment package nearly three months earlier than usual to "correct misperceptions" about her compensation.
Akerson received about $9.1 million in 2013 in overall compensation. He will collect about $4.7 million this year as a senior advisor to GM.
