General Motors Co. reports it sold 294,400 vehicles in May compared with a record 295,300 units in the same month last year, when year-on-year volume climbed 17%.

Last month’s second-best result was led by a 10% increase in demand for SUV/crossovers, multipurpose vehicles and luxury models. Cadillac sales, for example, jumped by two-thirds to 14,200 units in May. And demand for Baojun’s small SUVs climbed 47% to 64,100 units.

But Buick deliveries last month declined 7% to 94,000 units. Sales of Wuling commercial mini-vehicles dropped 19% to 84,600 units. Chevrolet sales in May dipped 1% to 37,600 units.
