General Motors Co. is expanding a free routine maintenance promotion to cover almost all its 2014 Buick, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles.
The program includes oil and filter replacements, tire rotations and a 27-point inspection for two years or 24,000 miles.
Kia, Toyota and Volkswagen offer similar free services, which have been standard for years on many luxury brands.
GM tested its free-service package a few months ago on fullsize Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickup trucks. The company already provides broader free maintenance for Cadillac models.
CEO Dan Akerson, who announced the expansion on Thursday at GM's annual shareholders meeting, says free maintenance helps build a stronger relationship between customers and their dealers that can translate into future new-vehicle sales.
