GM Reports Record January Sales in China

General Motors Co. and its partners sold a record 348,100 vehicles in China in January, up 12% from a year earlier.

General Motors Co. and its partners sold a record 348,100 vehicles in China in January, up 12% from a year earlier.

The company's Shanghai GM venture posted sales of 171,900 vehicles, up 11%. Its SAIC-GM-Wuling partnership sold 172,900 vehicles. Demand for trucks made by its FAW-GM venture fell 26% to 3,300 units.

GM reports that sales of Buick brand cars in China jumped nearly 16% to 100,100 units, the first time monthly volume topped 100,000 units. The Buick Excelle XT hatchback and GT sedans (Verano in the U.S.) accounted for one-third of the total.

Last year GM's sales in China rose 11% to a record 3.16 million units.
