General Motors Co. is recalling 56,200 of its 2007-2008 model Saturn Aura sedans because the shift cable for their 4-speed automatic transmissions may break.
If the cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, the driver won't be able to select another gear, shift the transmission into Park or remove the ignition key. That means the car could roll away after the vehicle is parked and its occupants leave.
The same cars were part of a recall nearly two years ago to fix a separate shifter flaw that could cause the shift indicator to show the transmission is in Park when it's actually still in gear.
Some of models involved in the new campaign also are part of a separate GM recall announced in March to fix faulty electric power steering motors in several models.
