GM Patents 8-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission

General Motors Co. has received a U.S. patent for an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission that media reports speculate could be used in the upcoming C8 Chevrolet Corvette.

This counters previous reports that have suggested the all-new ‘Vette will share a 7-speed DCT with the next-generation Ford Mustang. There also have been rumors about 6-, 7- and 10-speed transmissions for the 2020 model Chevy.

GM plans to unveil the next-generation Corvette on July 18.
