GM Outsells VW in China in First Half of 2013

Volkswagen AG's group sales jumped 19% year over year to 1.54 million vehicles in China from January through June of 2013. But the company trailed General Motors Co., which boosted deliveries 11% to a record 1.57 million units in that period.

Worldwide demand for VW brands climbed to a record 4.70 million vehicles in the first six months of 2013 from 4.45 million units a year earlier.

Group volume dropped 4% to 1.87 million vehicles across Europe and 4% to 450,500 vehicles in South America in the first half. Sales jumped 17% to 1.73 million units in Asia Pacific.

Global deliveries grew 4% to 2.91 million vehicles for VW brand passenger vehicles and advanced 6% to 780,500 units at Audi and 18% to 81,600 units at Porsche.
