General Motors sold 2.49 million vehicles worldwide from April through June this year, surpassing Toyota's group volume by about 10,000 units. Third-place Volkswagen Group sold 2.39 million vehicles in that period.

This marks the first time in six quarters that GM has been the world's top-selling carmaker.

Toyota's retains its global lead for the first six months of this year with volume of 4.91 million vehicles. GM delivered 4.85 million units and VW sold 4.70 million.
