GM Launches $1.3 Billion Capacity Expansion in U.S.
General Motors Co. plans to spend almost $1.3 billion most of it in the next two years to upgrade five factories in the Midwest to make next-generation pickup trucks and the powertrains to go with them.
General Motors Co. plans to spend almost $1.3 billion most of it in the next two years to upgrade five factories in the Midwest to make next-generation pickup trucks and the powertrains to go with them.
Most of the investment will go for two projects in Michigan:
- $600 million to install a new paint shop and other improvements at the GM Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra truck plant in Flint
- $493 million to prepare an engine plant in Romulus to make a new V-6 engine and 10-speed automatic transmission
- $121 million to add a logistics optimization center at the company's Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant
- $31 million to boost capacity to make 6-speed automatic transmissions in Toledo, Ohio
- $29 million to enable a casting plant in Bedford, Ind., to make components for 6- and 10-speed automatic transmissions
