General Motors Co. says it has fired Chase Hawkins, vice president of U.S. sales and service for its Cadillac brand, for violating an unspecified company policy, Automotive News reports.

Hawkins tells the newspaper he was dismissed for "more of a personal issue" than a policy violation. He did not offer details.

GM says it will name Hawkins' replacement soon. Hawkins joined GM in 1996. He served as director of sales and service for Cadillac's Northeast region before being appointed to the top U.S. sales job in June 2012.
