General Motors Co. is recalling 231,700 midsize SUVs, including 38,000 units sold outside the U.S., to repair the driver door's power lock/window module, which could overheat and catch fire.
The campaign covers 2006-2007 model Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7x vehicles and the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL.
The new recall expands a more narrowly focused action last August involving the same problem in 258,000 of the same models sold in the 20 snow-belt states, the District of Columbia and Canada.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says moisture can get into the door and corrode a circuit board in the power module located there. If a short circuit occurs, drivers might notice a burning smell, see smoke or detect a fire in the door.
