GM Denies Latest Rumor It Will Divest Opel
General Motors Co. reiterates that it has no plans to give its money-losing Opel unit to alliance partner PSA Peugeot Citroen.
General Motors Co. reiterates that it has no plans to give its money-losing Opel unit to alliance partner PSA Peugeot Citroen. The assertion follows a report in France's La Tribune that GM intends to transfer Opel and several billion euros to PSA Peugeot Citroen.
The Paris-based newspaper adds that the French government also might take a stake in the merged PSA-Opel entity.
GM CEO Dan Akerson declares again that "Opel is not for sale." He adds, "It's not being given away either."
Speculation about an Opel-PSA merger has circulated since GM and PSA agreed last February to a strategic alliance to share costs for logistics, purchasing and product development.
