General Motors Co. teamed with several Chinese organizations to demonstrate standardized connected vehicle technologies this week at the SAE-China Congress & Exhibition in Shanghai.

The demonstration included blind spot/lane change warning, forward collision warning, emergency vehicle alert and intersection assist. GM partnered on the project with Chang’an Auto, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, Shanghai International Auto City, Tsinghua University and Yanfeng Visteon.

GM, Tsinghua University and Chang’an Auto also are leading a working group for the development of the V2X and related application data-exchange service standards with the support of SAE-China and the China ITS Industry Alliance. The group aims to standardize V2X message formats across communications platforms.

The group has completed an initial analysis of the applications and now is working to define the required message set dictionary and data exchange standards. The set will be based on SAE’s J2735 protocol while taking into account China's unique road and traffic characteristics.

The message dictionary defines the content, format and coding methods for data exchange at the application layer. Data exchange standards cover time, frequency, data requirements and interface requirements.
