General Motors Co.'s India unit has introduced the Chevrolet Enjoy premium seven-seater, its first locally built entry in the country's fast-growing MPV segment.

GM says it plans to boost the annual capacity of its assembly plant in Halol, India, by 25,000 units to 110,000 vehicles later this year to enable higher-volume output of the new model.

Prices of gasoline- and diesel-powered versions of the Enjoy start at 549,000 rupees ($10,100) and 669,000 rupees ($12,300), respectively. GM says the vehicle will compete with the Suzuki Ertiga and Toyota Innova small MPVs.

The Enjoy is the India-specific version of the Wuling Sunshine MPV developed by GM's Chinese minivehicle joint venture with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. and Liuzhou Wuling Motors. The U.S. company says 60% of the Enjoy's content is sourced in India.

The MPV is built and sold in India by a GM joint venture with SAIC. In October the Chinese carmaker slashed its take in the partnership to 7% from 50%. In the past six months that venture also has introduced India variants of SAIC-GM-Wuling's Chevy Sail sedan and Sail U-VA supermini hatchback.
