General Motors Co. has halted plans to add interactive displays and renovate the exterior of its headquarters in the Renaissance Center building in downtown Detroit.
The facelift, which was announced in January 2016, was to have included a 70-ft by 80-ft LED video screen display as part of an expanded station for the Detroit People Mover train. The interactive experience was to combine physical and digital elements, providing information about GM's brands and the design and engineering process.
No reason was given for canceling the project. The carmaker tells Automotive News it is still is on pace to complete other interior updates by year-end. They include an expanded area for vehicle displays, which will feature a mix of current and historic models.
