GM Budgets $200 Million for Powertrain Consolidation
General Motors Co. says it will move global powertrain engineering operations in Castleton, Ind., and Torrance, Calif., to the unit's headquarters in Pontiac, Mich., by mid-2015.
General Motors Co. says it will move global powertrain engineering operations in Castleton, Ind., and Torrance, Calif., to the unit's headquarters in Pontiac, Mich., by mid-2015.
The company is spending $200 million to expand the Pontiac complex by 138,000 sq. ft. to accommodate about 400 jobs involved in the consolidation.
GM also will relocate its propulsion systems research lab from Warren, Mich., to Pontiac.
Separately, the company is investing $4 million at its Chevrolet Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green, Ky., to enable it to make high-performance engine variants for the sports car. Those powerplants currently are built in Wixom, Mich.
