General Motors Co. sold 9.29 million vehicles worldwide last year compared with 9.02 million in 2011.

GM's Chevrolet brand volume grew 4% to 4.95 million vehicles in 2012, more than 60% of which were sold outside the U.S. in such markets as Brazil, China and Russia.

Demand for all GM makes last year rose 3% to 3 million vehicles in North America, but fell in Europe (-8% to 1.6 million units) and South America (-2% to 1 million units). The company's sales in Asia and other international markets jumped 10% to 3.6 million vehicles, including an 11% increase to 2.8 million units in China.
