GM Anticipates Return to S&P 500 Stock Index
General Motors Co. is "on the cusp" of regaining its investment-grade credit rating, declares CEO Dan Akerson.
General Motors Co. is "on the cusp" of regaining its investment-grade credit rating, declares CEO Dan Akerson. When that happens, he predicts GM will return to the S&P 500 stock index.
The company was dropped from the index when it filed for bankruptcy in June 2009. Rejoining the S&P 500 would create demand for GM shares from mutual funds whose holdings mirror the index.
The company's credit rating is currently one notch below investment grade. GM shares closed at $33.42 on Friday, surpassing their $33 initial public offering price for the first time since March 2011.
