Carlos Ghosn—the chairman of Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi—tells French lawmakers that also continuing as CEO of Renault is not sustainable, Bloomberg News reports.

Ghosn, 63, has held the CEO position at one or more of the three alliance partners since 2001. He concedes to a French government hearing that holding the multiple offices is difficult.

Last month Les Echos reported that Renault is looking for a current or former Renault executive to succeed Ghosn. But his comments on Wednesday mark the first time Ghosn has indicated he might relinquish day-to-day operations at Renault, where he has been CEO since 2005. He stepped down as CEO at Nissan last February.

Ghosn indicated at the time that he would devote more time to the strategic and operational growth of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. Mitsubishi joined the group in October 2016.
