CEO Carlos Ghosn tells Luxemburg's RTL radio that Renault SA has "absolutely no interest" in seeing rival PSA Peugeot Citroen get into serious trouble.
He points out that both companies share many of the same suppliers. Thus a PSA failure would put huge strain on the financial viability of Renault's supply chain. If Renault's suppliers falter, Ghosn warns, "We would also be in difficulty."
Ford made a similar observation about the American auto industry when General Motor and Chrysler faced bankruptcy in 2009. Toyota cited the same concern earlier this month in deciding to phase out production in Australia by 2017 after Ford and GM announced plans to do the same.
