Jailed former Nissan Motor Co. Chairman Carlos Ghosn has developed a high fever that has prompted prosecutors to temporarily stop questioning him.

His lawyer says Ghosn is being attended to by a doctor, who blames the 65-year-old’s condition on his incarceration and lengthy interrogations, Bloomberg News reports.

Ghosn has been held in a small cell since his arrest on Nov. 19 on charges of financial misconduct. His current period of detention expires tomorrow, but Reuters says prosecutors are expected to file new charges to extend it.

Yesterday Ghosn appeared in court to protest his innocence and question is protracted detention. But the judge says jail him is warranted because the executive is a flight risk and could destroy evidence if released.
