A Japanese court has turned down a request by Carlos Ghosn, the former chairman of Nissan Motor Co., to attend the company’s board meeting tomorrow.
Ghosn was released on bail on March 6 after being arrested in mid-November on charges of financial misconduct. He has been stripped of Nissan’s chairmanship but remains a member of the company’s board.
The Nikkei, which first reported Ghosn’s request, noted that Ghosn also continues to hold board seats at Renault SA and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. The newspaper speculated that he might ask to attend board meetings by those companies too. One of the terms of his bail is to avoid direct contact with anyone involved in the indictments against him.
