Gentex Boosts Earnings 47%

Gentex Corp. reports its net sales rose 18% to $338 million in April-June, and net earnings soared 47% to $77 million.

Results were aided by the company's $700 million acquisition of Johnson Control Inc.'s HomeLink in-car garage door-opener business last autumn.

The Zeeland, Mich.-based mirror maker's profit margin for the second quarter climbed to 40% from 36% a year earlier. Gentex says its shipments of self-dimming automotive mirrors climbed 12% year on year during the period, hiking the company's auto-related sales 18% to $330 million.
