Hyundai Motor Co.’s Genesis luxury arm has hired Alexander Selipanov as chief designer of the company’s Advanced Studio in Russelheim, Germany.
Selipanov has spent the last 11 years at Volkswagen AG, most recently serving as head of exterior design for the company’s Bugatti unit. His credits include the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo Concept and the Bugatti Chiron. Selipanov also was part of the team that designed the Lamborghini Huracan supercar.
A graduate of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif., Selipanov is the third former VW designer hired by Hyundai/Genesis in the last 18 months.
It began in mid-2015, when Luc Donckerwolke left VW’s Bentley arm to become Hyundai’s design chief. He was joined earlier this year by another former Bentley designer, Sangyup Lee, who is vice president of design for Genesis. Selipanov and Lee report to Donckerwolke.
