Ford Motor Co. is launching a global recall to replace a leaky fuel tank module in 466,000 of its vehicles, including 412,600 in the U.S. and Canada.
The campaign involves 2013 model-year Ford Fusion, Ford Taurus, Ford Police Interceptor and Lincoln MKS and MKZ sedans, Ford Explorer/Police Utility SUVs and Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT crossovers. Owners may detect a fuel smell or a puddle of leaking fuel under their vehicles.
Ford acknowledges some 600 complaints about the problem but says there have been no reports of fire or injuries linked to the problem.
The company doesn't expect to be ready to begin the recall until September. At that time, dealers will replace the fuel delivery module, which includes a faulty fuel line connector where the leaking may occur.
