Honda Motor Co. is preparing to recall 886,800 of its 2005-2010 model Odyssey minivans so it can replace a fuel pump part that could leak and cause a fire.
The vehicles were built at its factory in Lincoln, Ala. Honda says they contain a fuel pump strainer cover that may crack after being degraded by exposure to acidic car-wash chemicals or low-pH chemicals in fertilizer and dust control liquids.
Honda says repair parts won't be available in sufficient quantities until summer. In the meantime, the company will fix pumps that are leaking with an original fuel strainer cover, then replace it with the improved cover when it becomes available.
