The U.S. Senate has confirmed Anthony Foxx, mayor of Charlotte, N.C., as secretary of the Dept. of Transportation.
He succeeds Ray LaHood, who in January announced plans to step down after four years in the post.
Fox was a proponent of mass transit during his four years as Charlotte's mayor and an additional four on its city council. The city established an electric tram service and extended its light-rail system.
