David Brabham, a former race car driver and youngest son of Formula One legend Jack Brabham, has formally launched Brabham Automotive Ltd.

The company has been in the works for about two years. Media reports suggest the younger Brabham is a leading candidate to purchase the Force India F1 Team, then use the motorsports venture to help launch a new supercar.

Force India finished fourth in F1 standings last year. But the team is expected to be sold in coming months due to the ongoing legal problems of its two owners, Vijay Mallya and Subrata Roy.

David Brabham was part of the 2009 winning team at the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. His father is a three-time F1 champ. The Australian racing family also includes David’s older brothers—Geoff and Gary—and his son Sam, who competes in the British Formula Ford Championship series.
