Ford Motor Co. plans to hike annual production of its new generation of Kuga compact SUV at its plant in Valencia, Spain, by 8,000 units to 88,000 units this year.

The increase will help meet strong demand, according to Ford. It says European orders for the Kuga rose 27% in February.

The company also produces the SUV at a factory in Tatarstan. Ford expects combined Kuga output of 100,000 units in Europe this year.
