Ford Motor Co. is recalling 402,500 of its 2015 model Transit vans and buses in North America to replace a driveshaft joint that could break.
The failure would cut off motive power and could damage nearby brake and fuel lines or allow a parked vehicle to roll away. Ford reports no accidents or injuries associated with the defect.
The callback covers vehicles with medium, long and extended wheelbases, and chassis/cutaway vehicles with medium wheelbases. All affected vans were produced at Ford’s factory in Kansas City, Mo., during the first six months of this year.
Ford says the flexible coupling isn’t likely to fail until at least 30,000 miles of service. Until it can develop a permanent repair, the company will replace the joint free within 30,000 miles as long as necessary.
