Ford Motor Co. is recalling 230,000 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans to replace defective third-row seat brackets that could fail.
The campaign involves minivans from the 2004-2007 model years, 196,000 of them sold or registered in 20 U.S. "salt-belt" states. Most of the remaining 33,300 affected vehicles are in Canada.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says corrosion caused by road salt could prevent the latches for the removable third-row seats from locking.
