Ford Motor Co. has begun offering employment buyouts to 15,300 of its salaried workers. The plan is part of a global effort announced last month to reduce staffing levels.
Ford is offering packages that include between three and 18 months of pay. Targeted departments are communications, corporate staff, finance, government affairs, marketing, purchasing and sales, the Detroit Free Press reports.
The newspaper says about 9,600 of the eligible employees are in the U.S., 4,100 in Asia Pacific, 1,000 in Mexico and 600 in Canada.
